♫♪♯ Baby, its cold outside… ♪♯♫ Christmas is in the air, winter is upon us, and it’s cold! But it was another hot B&P Toastmasters meeting this week! Doug Kelly – Mr. Hawaii, himself – performed the Toastmaster of the Day duties with his usual flair, wit and Santa-themed Hawaiian shirt. Word of the Day was ‘Incorrigible’, which means (of a person or their tendencies) not able to be corrected, improved, or reformed. Similar words are hopeless, unrepentant, incurable and unapologetic. Many drew comparisons (lightheartedly, of course) between the Word of the Day and the Toastmaster of the Day! Soooo, that’s how the meeting started! And the fun continued unabated. A huge B&P welcome to our guests and visitors, Charlette Aldridge, Nicole Amstutz, Gail Couser, Patrick Duffy, Ela Ponder and Molly Tijerina! This was Molly’s third visit and she plans to join B&P! WooHoo! Loren Peters managed the General Evaluator duties with style and had a great team of Toastmasters under his direction. Sue ‘Firecracker’ Thompson ran Table Topics with a fun spin – As Santa/Snowman/Rudolph and you have a problem and are writing Dear Abby; what do you write? Quite funny! Best Table Topics award went to Dave Cornell for a deep-voiced snowman writing Dear Abby about how to avoid the spring weather! Hilarious! Best Evaluator award went to that master of the evaluation, Elaine Miller, for an energetic evaluation of Mark Jannasch’s speech. And the highest, most sought-after award, the famous blue ribbon of ultimate B&P distinction – Best Speaker – went to David Bamberger for a wonderful speech on the afterlife. Jeff Brown passed along the Spirit Stick to Doug Kelly for his steady and passionate support of B&P as well as Doug’s great mentoring style. (Doug is Jeff’s mentor.) Congratulations to our 3 ribbon and Spirit Stick winners! Does B&P have fun and provide an open, welcoming environment for folks? Oh, yeah! So in that regard, we are ‘incorrigible’, for we do not want to change our style that makes people feel good and have fun – all while learning to speak better. Maybe that’s why we are a proud recipient of the President’s Distinguished Award, every year, since 2004. The best in San Antonio! Looking forward to seeing YOU next Friday... same B&P time, same B&P channel!
